Well, not the Amiga.

The interface is the bottleneck not the card.

I have no idea which of the two is faster.

Exactly. It doesn't really matter much because you will never realize HD speeds above what the Amiga can handle regardless of what the card is rated. I use a 2GB CF card plugged into an adapter and into the IDE port and it is a noticeable improvement over the old spinning platters of rust that use to come with the A1200. I still have my original 85MB hard drive that came with it in case I ever want to sell it with the Amiga as a stock system. It even works.

Honestly, 2GB is way more space then we would have ever had back then so it stores a lot of stuff. I tend to keep my drives under the limit required by the original kickstart ROMs and the OS limits. The newer updates have removed most of the limits but I still prefer to use the old ones.

I totally do this. Sure, I've got friends who max their machines out "because they can" but I don't go down that road. I put all the software and games I actually want to play (not every game known to mankind via WHDLoad) and I still have gobs of space left over. My current sweet spot for a HDD size is 512MB.

The other main benefit? My machines boot in mere seconds.

I don't think I've posted about this anywhere yet. I hope to go more in-depth about it later this year. But I've been slowly building a "monster" A3000 with a zz9000 graphics card that actually runs (gasp!) OS 3.1. It's my early 90s on steroids machine. This machine booted so fast originally (less than 7 seconds), it booted before the zz9000 could even initialize, thus freezing the machine during startup! I had to go into the startup sequence and force it to wait 1 second just so the machine wouldn't hang on boot-up it was so fast.

Of course, if I had a gigantically obscene hard drive in the thing, maybe that wouldn't have been necessary. =)

An additional added benefit is very tidy, easy to make backups of the hard drive. I don't need to back up a system's drive with thousands of games and mod files - just my key setup I like from system to system. I do have too many systems, that much is true.

I totally agree. I prefer adding stuff to my systems as I need them. I get overwhelmed with too much stuff.

Off topic: make sure to have the voltage fix applied to the ZZ9000.

I did. I have a good friend here locally named Christian (also a member of A1K, originally from Germany) who did the fix for me. It was verified, too. Horrible such a primo $$$ card shipped with that fatal flaw, but glad I've got it covered.

Ok, I got my CF adapter up and running and I now am facing a tough choice.

Run my A1200 on a 4GB card and have a 32GB transfer card
or
Run my A1200 on a 32GB card and have a 4GB transfer card

It is a difficult choice, cause my OS is currently on the 4GB card.
For transferring files from PC to Amiga heck even a 512MB CF card will do but for sure keep the larger CF card as your HD
