I'm curious if there are any kind of solutions for the A1000 for hooking up a USB or PS/2 keyboard to it. I've seen such adapters for other Amiga models, but not the A1000. I'd be fine with having to chain a couple of adapters together to achieve what I want. Unfortunately I also have zero soldering experience and don't even own the equipment to do something like that, so it'd have to only include pre-assembled bits.

So far I've seen an A2000->A1000 keyboard adapter which ordinarily would help because there are also USB and PS/2 to A2000/3000/4000 adapters, however I've only seen the A2000->A1000 adapter available in PCB form and the USB and PS/2 to A2000 adapters I've found thus far ("SUM USB") seem to be discontinued.

Any ideas?

Been through a similar research lately. Bottom line: no options available.

The SUM A234 adapter you mention does require a homebrew A2000-A1000 Keyboard Adapter.

The solutions from eBay that plug into the CIA Chip of the keyboard of the A500 are crap with regards to the supported USB keyboards - I had one of those. YMMV

There is a SUM adapter for the A600 that clips onto the differently shaped CIA of the A600. It could manually be re-wired to fit the A500/A1000 one.

Cheers,
McT

Well, I got lucky and found an A2000->A1000 keyboard adapter cable for sale this morning on eBay. FWIW it seems this seller is one that is occasionally selling them (for $20 -- which is a bit steep for what it's doing but it IS pre-assembled and does appear to be well-made so I'm not going to complain that much), so for anyone else who's looking for one of these you might keep an eye on their store/listings.

I also ordered a Lyra 3 for converting from PS/2 to A2000/3000/4000, so hopefully with that and the other adapter I can at least get a PS/2 keyboard (and possibly a compatible USB keyboard with a USB->PS/2 adapter) working on my A1000! :D

Just a quick update: I got both parts in finally and tested it with a Dell PS/2 keyboard I had laying around and it works wonderfully! I can now type without any issues on my A1000 again! 8-) :D

OUCH...that is pricey... a $2-3 solder tail DIN5 and even cheaper piece of telephone cable and RJ-11 jack cobbled together. I'm sure the "free shipping" is USPS first class mail, coming in at $3 or so. All in, about $7 to produce including shipping.

A dedicated version of the Sum adapter for Amiga 1000 has just been created.
