intuition, picasso et al

I have a couple questions:

1. I really like the new intuition rom add on that allows you to move windows off of the workbench screen. My only complaint is that it requires two reboots after a cold start to patch this into kickstart. Is there a 3.1.4 kickstart rom file that already has the new intuition library with the movable windows as part of it?

2. A really great person on here fixed up my Picasso II card and is sending it back to me (thank you Christian). Does anyone recommend a driver set over another for this card? I haven't installed any drivers yet and was wondering what would work best under 3.1.4.

Thank you.

J

Are the Picasso drivers that are being sold over at icomp.de not appropriate for your card? I use it with all my RTGs and it works fine.

I prefer CybergraphX (CGX) but that’s simply because I installed it back 25 years ago. I use Picasso 96 with my Merlin graphics card which is not supported by CGX. No big difference. If you want to use the new intuition.library, then P96 is right for you.

Picasso 96 - now simply P96 - gets regular updates and IMHO is a good choice if you set up new.
Especially for the Picassos, where the software comes from.
Personally, I like to encourage continued development and buy such software.

With regards to 3.1.4, where did you buy it?
When getting directly from Hyperion, there is a Kickrom file in the distribution.
This can be used with tools such as maprom so that you can have only one reboot.
This ROMfile can also be modified with tools such as Remus:

Thanks for this info. I bought my 3.1.4 roms directly from Hyperion's website and then I burned them with my EPROM burner. They work great but I'd like it to have the roms on the motherboard with the new intuition library included.

I'll give the REMUS tool a looksie.

Do you have a link for the official P96 download location?

P96 is available from iComp.de .
It’s a bit weird. You purchase it and then under your order history you get a download link.

Regarding the ROM I am not quite sure what you want to achieve. If you have 3.1.4 in ROM - even if it is an EPROM - you have everything available at boot??

Or is it about the 3.1.4.1 modules?

IIRC it can also be bizarrely difficult to find in the shop.

I found the P96 site, created an account and purchased the software. Yes, their site is total crap for finding what you need. Crazy how difficult it was. However the software was about $20USD and well worth it. I can't wait to try it on my Picasso when it returns.

About ROMs: I would like the intuition.library that comes with 3.1.4.1 update which allows for moving windows off screen to be in my actual ROMs on the motherboard. The stock 3.1.4 intuition.library on the kickstart rom doesn't have this cool feature so when I boot, it straps the new intuition.library into kickstart, reboots and starts again: double restarting from power on.

I was hoping to find a kickstart ROM with the intuition.library with movable windows already included. If someone has these roms for an amiga 3000, I'll gladly take them. Happy to provide my proof that I bought them from Hyperion.

Ab, thanks for the clarification.

I would think that indeed Remus does the job. You could replace intuition and other modules.

Please test the new Kick with some sort of maprom or similar 🙂 before burning to eprom.

Last time I tried Remus it was pretty straightforward.

I tried to run Remus but it keeps telling me I need MUI. Not sure which version of MUI to install but any archive I find won't fit on an ADF disk so I can't get it from my Windows PC to my Amiga.

Any ideas on a MUI that installs from ADF or DMS directly? It seems to be in LHA format only which is too big for a floppy.
