Just curious on why the Amiga branded drives cables are so short. They are so short that you can't select which side of the 1000 you want to put your drives. This is true of the 5.25" Amiga (1020 I think is the model, looks like the 1571 but Amiga badged) and the 1010. The 3rd party drives have longer cables.

Is it for data transmission/error prevention? Less cable mess? Just curious if anyone has any insight!

thanks!

On the A1000, I've always put my 1010 on the right side because that's the side the serial port is located, more or less. Also, at least with the A1000, a lot of times I wind up putting it on top of the case, too, but not always.

Putting it on the right also helps keep DF0 and DF1 close together, which is pretty handy when there might be a little disk swapping here and there. You aren't reaching in drastically different directions for Disk 1 or Disk 2, etc.

I don't think there's a technical reason why the length of the cable is what it is. Even the 1010's manual showed it on the right (on the left, when looking from behind).
