Hi,

so I installed the Indivision ECS board into my A500 and I am underwhelmed.

First, if I go into Prefs/Screenmode I can only see the following NTSC display modes:
320 x 200
640 x 480.

Second, at 640 x 480 the workbench screen is not taking up my monitors entire screen. The WB starts at the top left but only goes about 2/3 of the way down and to the right.

Did I miss a configuration somewhere or is this as good as it gets?

Thanks

Alex

The Indivision does not alter the availability of screenmodes.

So any screenmode available before will be available after installation of the Indy.

For the position of the picture you may have to tweak parameters in both your screen and the Indy. There is a software available for the und to tweak done things.

If you want higher graphics modes, you need to install Monitors. You drag these from the Storage/Monitors folder into the Devs/Monitors folder. This is in AmigaOS 2.x and higher, so if you're using 1.3, you're SOL.

The Indivision should support most of them, though I've only ever used the NTSC/PAL modes myself. Known to work are SuperPlus (800x600), HD720 (1280x720) and the older HighGFX (1024x768). There's a new HighGFX driver that pushes 1280x1024 (HOW!?!?!) -- no idea if it works or not. These can be downloaded from Aminet.

Out of the box, the Indivision shows the entire Amiga overscan and then some -- you can use up some of it by editing your overscan settings in Preferences. You can also edit the screen mode to have less black around the Amiga screen by using the Indivision ECS tool.

The documentation as well as recent updates are here

Thanks

I got it working.

I have it working Nicely at HD720.

Is there a table that shows number of colors available at each resolution?

Thanks

Alex

Now, I don't know for sure, but I suspect that most of those HighGFX like modes are all based on superhires. All superhires and productivity modes are limited to only four colours and for some reason, only out of a 64-colour palette. I'm not sure why ECS had to cripple the palette in superhires, but the bitplane limitation was because Commodore chose not to use EDO/FPM memory with ECS and just couldn't fetch enough data. Cheapskates.

Anyway, if you want-to and happen to have an MMU-based accelerator, there is a P96 driver that accesses the Indivision Core directly. It's buggy and development has sadly fallen a bit off the rails, but it's worth checking out. Here's a video of it.

Perhaps my resolution is too high and I am stuck at 4 colors.

What’s the best resolution to display glowicons?

You really need AGA or RTG for GlowIcon support. The best resolution you can get and still have sixteen colours would be PAL Interlaced at full overscan. If memory serves that's somewhere around 720 x 576, but I'm not sure what the Indivision can handle. At sixteen colours, GlowIcons will look better, but not great.

EDIT: There's the SuperPlus driver which can do 800x600 at 16 colours on ECS. I know next to nothing else about it.

EDIT2: Found it
