Purpose for the Vidiot board?

The description given at AOTL doesn't really clarify in detail what issue this board resolves (at least not to me). Doesn't appear to have any outputs, so it's not a scan doubler?

Can anyone clear the fog from my addled brain? Is there a video anamoly that's deficient that requires this board?

Afaik, it's to replace a defective one, that's all.

The vidiot is responsible for converting the 12-bit RGB from Denise into analog, that's all.

Ah, I see. I didn't realize there was already a board named the vidiot (I've got to spend more time getting personal with my motherboards). Um, that sounded awkward.
