So I have had this wonderful collaboration with the great guy behind retrohax.net. As you can read in his blog, this was quite an effort. Read all about the build here:

https://retrohax.net/tag/tesseract/

It is a series of a 7 blog entries depicting a bit the ups and downs on building this impressive machine.
Hint: it was not straightforward.

In any case it’s now on my desk.

I plan on describing the software install in detail later on. Similar to the hardware install, it is not straightforward. Still, it can do impressive things. Under 3.1, it can run, for example, three music streams. One mp3 playing with Amplifier via X-Audio / Melody, one mp3 playing with AmigaAMP via MHI/ ZZ9000ax and an old SID file with EaglePlayer. Imaging that back in the 90ies even!

So this here is a sneak preview for the system. For example, OS3.2 is giving me issues. I hope to sort this out in the next weeks. In the meantime - if you have any questions, let me know. If you want any specific piece of software tested, let me know.

That is SO damned sexy. No offense to anyone, but I'd take an Amiga packaged like that over a checkmate case any day. Wow! Looks like a streamlined CDTV. I love it!

Thanks a lot, so do I 😆

The design and esthetics a.k.a. WAF were indeed major driving elements.

Fun fact: the case is the one that was meant to be an „Amiga 1000“ in the reboot from Commodore USA some years ago.

So I did. my part to fulfill this 😊.

So what does not work?

- The Twister 1200
The driver seems to collide with the HyperCOM3. Or something like that. I have a few modded drivers that adapt the Clockport-address to the addresses of the Z-IV boards. Long-term, I’ll try to find the right address off the Twister on the clockport of the Buddha and adapter the driver respectively. So it might work one day.

- Real-Time clock
It doesn’t save the time. It might be a faulty chip. It kind of works. I can set the time whenever I boot the machine. Upon next reboot, even warm reboot, the time needs be set again.

- some parallel tasks
For example, when I try to run some music streams (see first post) and then want to copy files from USB to somewhere else the Amiga crashes. Black screen and reboot, no GURU.
Individually, this all works. I can live with this :D .

Anyone have an idea for a keyboard that is more … Amiga-esque?

The Tankmouse of course is perfect and I am now looking for a matching keyboard.

The one I currently have fits below the case just like with the original Amiga 1000 😊.

Both are mechanical, top is cherry mx silent red, bottom is blue - nice and clicky.

I've got Help keys coming soon, in place of insert key.

Interesting!

Do you have a link?

They seem to be quite large?

There's no link. I'm taking random mechanical keyboards and tweaking them for amiga usage.

As I mentioned, they are chunky. Not thin, not wireless. But at least they're black ;)
