I've never run across an issue like that ever. Purely anecdotal but I can't think of a single reason extra RAM would be a bad thing. If anything, folks who juice their machines with ridiculous amounts of RAM probably never actually tap into those resources, so there's a potentially unnecessary cost involved. But not anything technical.

There were reports of games that don’t run with 2MB. But those would have issues with ECS-chips like the required Agnus anyways. Plus they would probably require KS 1.1 or even 1.0.

So potentially a few very early Amiga games. Archon maybe? I remember that game to be a diva.

That's true - it's less the issue with the amount of RAM but the Agnus/chips trying to access it. Good point.

I never had any issue with Archon or any of the very old games (Cali-Games, Skyfox, Arctic Fox, et al) on ECS machines. Kickstart is another topic (some of those indeed require 1.1). (I had a 1.1-ROM in my old Phoenix board back then)

IMHO, the only need for > 1MB chip RAM in 2019 is only for (a) bragging rights, (b) you are a completist in maxing out your hardware config, or (c) you actually do photo/graphic work on an Amiga (which makes me wince given how much better tools are nowadays).

If you play games or do the occasional "goofing around" with DeluxePaint or what have you, 1MB chip is the sweet spot.

Nope, the A3000 Agnus I have is a 318069-18 (PAL-only, needs a VBB fix). While well-known websites are falsely describing it as an AGNUS for A500+/A600, it is indeed for A3000. See the last page at this link which explains how to fit in a A2000 (and so how we can fit in a A500 rev.6A with a probable VBB fix to do on JP4). On the other hand, the 318069-19 is correctly described as an NTSC only Agnus for A3000 by those websites. That was the reason why I thought something was wrong with the description of version -18 and finally found out a German document listing all of them which says a different description for -18 and then the document I linked here.

None of the 8372/8375-Agni is "PAL only" or "NTSC only". PAL or NTSC only refer to the default boot mode. All of those can do PAL and NTSC.

Correct. Later A3K revisions did indeed have Agnus chips that booted specific to their region. Earlier models, and most you’ll find in the States were the 8372AB that was indeed switchable.
