Today I’m happy to announce that I’m (finally) releasing my custom Workbench icons to the world for whoever might want them.
Download AmigaLove Icon Set 1.3a

Yeah, I know. It’s about 30 years too late to ever get much use, but there might be one or two people out there that might like to use a couple of these on their machines today. Whenever I showed one of my creations in the recent past there was always one person who asked me if they could download it for themselves. Well, now those that want them can.

In order to use these Workbench icons, you must have a system running Workbench 1.3 in the original blue palette. You can of course run them in a gray (2.0+) environment, but they won’t look good at all. In fact, they’ll look a lot like photographic negatives, where dark colors become light and vice versa. The colors would have to be completely remapped.

In any case there are 5 icon types that can potentially be created in Workbench 1.3:
  • Disks (hard disks, partition roots)
  • Drawers (folders/directories)
  • Tools (executable programs you can launch)
  • Projects (Data Files)
  • Trashcans
In theory there are a couple others but are not really applicable to 99.9% of users (including me).

In my icon set I only focused on the first three types listed above.

The following are the icons you will find in the package:

System 1.3

Zip Disk (what I use with my A1000 as an auto-booting hard drive)

Lemmings: Clicking this Disk icon can be a "blast"

VCR "Flash Gordon" drive. This was the first icon I ever did.

Terminals. ATDT, yo!

Documents: clicking this icon reveals a hidden message.

Games: Clicking this icon is like eating a power pill.

Tools (everybody's got tools).

64Door: An Amiga terminal program that fully supports PETSCII, which is very nice when you hit BBSes being run off of C64's and C128's.

(Note: the colors were difficult to replicate verbatim using photography. Each icon has two states. The examples below show their primary, non-clicked state.)

I’m calling this set “1.3a” in case I ever create more in the future (like a Trashcan, other Tools, etc.).

In the video above I explain how to apply these icons to your own machines one by one. There is no “installer package” or script, just the original icon files. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. And I will see about adding them to Aminet, too, in the very near future.

Feel free to ask me any questions, and I hope you enjoy them! And if the video inspires any of you to create your own icons, let’s see them!

For those looking for more detailed information on how to create your own Workbench 1.3 icons, go here.

In the original package I forgot to include the icon. You can get the Games Icon right here.

This is awesome!

My Amiga is currently undergoing a major rework / maintenance project.

Once it is fully operatiopnal and available again for regular activity (games! :) ) this icon set will surely by part of my 1.3-portion of the setup.

Thanks a bunch, man.

I'm going on vacation soon but have some plans for September. I'm never going to be a once-a-week YouTuber type. I'm lucky to be a once-a-month guy. But I've got some weird niche stuff I'd love to video for sure. Cheers

So got lost in this video today.. After upgrading my A590 Hard drive which took me 2 days (long story) I felt need to update workbench icons. I even took a feeble attempt to make my own icon. Thanks Intrinsic for great video. I learned something today.

Question: Dont see your pacman "game" icon in the WB set. Could we get a copy of that one?
