I know this is a long shot but does anyone have or know where to find an image of the Star Micronics Printer Driver disk for Amiga? I went to image my disk and it has errors on it. I think I can try to salvage it but if there is an image of this driver disk in someones collection that would be great.

I think it is actually called Star Micronics LQ disk. When you insert the disk a large icon on the desktop appears with the Star Logo. Inside are a few pictures with viewer that will print the image, the printer selector and drivers for LQ and NLQ (24/9pin) printers by Star. They are generally Epson Compatible but I think it is preferable to have the exact driver of the printer you are using.

It is a bootable Workbench 1.3.x disk and from what I can tell was from about 1989/1990.

If you used an NX-1000 series or NX-2400 series printer (LC10 and LC24 in Europe) then this is the driver disk you would have used.

So it appears the drivers are from 1992. Here are a few screenshots:

EDIT: ADF image of disk attached as a zip file in case anyone needs it. The file disk is bad so you will get a disk error if you try to view that file.

So after testing the disk to try to find and fix the errors I have determined that it is the file called "disk" that is corrupt. 3 bad sectors from what I can tell. The file appears to be related to "Disks" and is most likely an IFF picture.

Not a big deal and the drivers seem fine. So I will find a place to upload this image in case there are still goofs like me that like to use an actual dot matrix printer with their Amiga. haha.

I do know that Star released a few of these disks and some had specifics about the drivers that this version does not. I also have another disk that has some drivers specifically for the NX-1000 Rainbow but I think they are not from Star.

1992 drivers written and aimed at OS 1.3 for a printer like the NX-1000, which dates back to 1987 according to a manual I found online. I wonder why the drivers were written so late? Are your disks original or copies?

I copied mine from an original back in the day. I would guess because the NX-1000, although it was released in 87 it did not really see the light of day here until 1988 and was sold in various forms through 1994. 1000CL is the Rainbow (Color). But they also sold the 1020, 1040, 1001, 1000II etc. My NX-1000C Rainbow (the C64 variant) was bought new in late 1988/early 1989. They sold a lot of these printers. The same is true for the 24 pin variety that was the 2400. My 2420 dates to late 1990, early 1991. I bought it new in 1991 or early 1992. Then you also had the 2430, 2450, 2480. My 2480 came with a Windows 3.1 driver disk and is dated 1994. Star made 24-pin LQ and 9-pin NLQ printers for a lot of years starting in probably 1983 with the SG that had an NLQ mode. So if I had to wager a guess, they made updates to the same disk without adding any kind of version info. That said I would guess that this disk was modified. The system-configuration file is also dated 1992 and that gets updated when the selections change. All the images are also 1992.

If you want I can email you a copy of the ADF? The only file that does not work is the file "disk" which is related to the icon Disks.

Thanks, but I don't have those printers. The only Star printer I have is the Star NL-10.

However, if you want, you could zip up the ADF and attach it to a post here for anyone looking for the drivers in the future.
