I love modern storage solutions for the Commodore 64 as much as the next guy (and use them!).

But I also love me some good ol' fashioned floppy disk grinding. And the 1541-II has got to be the Cadillac of floppy drives for the C64.

OK this one purrs more than it grinds, but you know what I mean.

This is my 2nd 1541-II. I never had a boxed one until now. Got it for a stunningly good $65. That yellow line on the box is a shadow, by the way.

Package is complete even with the manual, which is cool.

Ah, the chickenlips embossed logo... And can I get a "Hell Yes" from the congregation for the storage card and locked latch?

Super deal on an awesome drive! Nice find. I love how these take up so little space. I still have my original that was bought new at Toys R Us back in the 80's. It was our BBSs drive 9 for a few years and now sits on top of my 1571 that was used as drive 10 back then. I'll give you 2 guesses what model was drive 11. haha.

The nice thing about these is that since the PSU is external the drive doesn't get hot. If you look on the PSU, note
that it says it was for the 1541-II/1571-II/1581. I so wish they had released the 1571-II as it still is one of my favorite drives

Don't get me wrong as I do appreciate and use some of the modern storage solutions, but my main storage medium is still the mighty floppy disk. I will use them until they disintegrate.

Did yours come with any disks?

Actually, no. And the warranty card is missing, too! ;)

My reference in floppy drives is the Indus GT. My C64 Project is progressing soooo slooowly with so many unforeseen obstacles it’s crazy.
If I ever finish that I plan to add the RAM expansion to my Indus and let some CPM run on it.
Why?
Because I can :D.
