Hello

Wondering if anyone is able to explain something for me?

I have an A2000 with a Commodore 68020 card, and a Masoboshi Smartcard ide/scsi controller.

When testing hd speed with sysinfo, I get around 2,2mbps with the 68020 and a little over 3mbps in 68000 mode. Isn’t this a little strange? Shouldn’t the 020 mode be faster?

Regards

Try copying a large file and measure by hand to check plausibility.

Been there by myself before. ;)

Sysinfo is a Great starting point but sometimes has some quirks. Aminet should have some disk benchmarks.

But yes, what you describe is possible.

IIRC, the Kobaja... erm Nakato... erm Masoboshi card does DMA, so basically, the CPU should not matter. However, DMA is tricky, and the memory interface is of essence. Don't know any details, but DMA cards optimized for the basic 68000 setup (ie not paired with a CPU-upgrade on the same card) tend to show that issue when the CPU is upgraded and coming with its own memory. I remember a GVP SCSI card showing the same seemingly strange behavior.

See if you can disable DMA with the Masob. in some way, it will likely be faster without it.
