A1000 Serial # Sequence thread

Where does kickstart load on a PAL machine then? And if I mount a kickstart rom can I remove the daughter board?

The daughterboard is «moved» into the mainboard so the pal and ntsc machines have the same way of losding the kickstart.

I do not think your a1000 will work at all if you remove the daughterboard, even if you put in a kickrom adapter.

You can only remove the daughterboard if you replace it with something like the Rejuvenator.

It is possible to remove the daughterboard on the A1000 Rev 6 and Rev A motherboards and to install four 27C512 EPROMs - two sockets already hold the A1000 boot roms and there are two additional sockets below. Without any further hacks, that means only 256 KB kickstarts (i.e. up to 1.3 or 1.4 Alpha 15). Two of the PALs need to be transplanted from the daughterboard to the motherboard (the locations are marked on the motherboard with the chip types - I think one is 74F257 - I can look it up and also get the exact locations). These two locations have the posts that go to the daughterboard and must obviously be removed. The other posts should also be removed. Finally, some pads need to have traces cut and jumpered with a blob of solder the other way.

I have a 1000 Revision A with doughterboard, now I don't have the time to re-open the case to see the serial. I've added an external HC520 classic expansione

Cool, makes me wonder... Can I somehow then use the kickstart ram as normal ram when using kickrom adapter?

I imagine I then could have 256kb ram extra.
