I agree with A1-X1000. It would dampen the boo-birds who complain about prices, while opening doors to folks like myself who prefer tested turn-key solutions.

I'd like the build yourself option kit with GAL's/ROM's included, as well as a case, decal's, and PCB - also a list of all additional parts that need to be obtained.

An option for both is great. While I do like building kits, sometimes my backlog is too great and for something like this (and the recent FD-2000) I would prefer a fully tested unit.

In addition a unit without the actual drive would be a nice option too. A lot of people may already own either SCSI drives (for the authentic experience) or emulators (ZuluSCSI, SCSI2SD, etc).

I more interested in the pre-built version unless there's some huge savings to be had by building it myself (which I very much doubt).

All of the case designs are complete. The 3D printable ones are done and confirmed good in so far as FDM as well as the resin prints. You've seen the FDM print in the first photo in the thread. Here are the resin prints. These next four pictures are actual photos of the physical cases (not renders).

The metal case design is complete, and I've had it manufactured in 1.2mm aluminum that's been bead blasted and anodized black. I'm expecting that case to arrive this week. Here's a render of that case. The render is transparent so you can see the two halves in one photo. The case uses press-fit hardware that I'll be embedding into the case. It's slightly different hardware for the led/button board but hoping it works as well. Time will tell.

As with the FD-series metal case, I've made mine a little different soas not to be confused with an original drive case from the 90's. There are two extra slots on each side of the case, and the two banks of slots on the bottom are each shy by one. If you're not counting the slots, I don't think you'd notice.

I did a small redesign of the led/button board and that came out nice. Last thing I need to do is figure out what I want to use for a battery for the RTC. I have some ideas I'm currently working on.

In the process of building a bunch of boards right now, so I have something to populate all of these different cases. Once that's all done, I'll share the photos. I now have two functioning reproductions and am building 10 more.

Lastly, the re-work for the new HD-4000 labels are done, just waiting on pricing. Then, I'll have those manufactured as well.

Here's the first look at the new board mount and metal case I designed for the drive. I've decided to use the BlueSCSI v2 board, but needed to design a new mount for it as I had not designed one for this particular board. It has kind of goofy screw locations. A bit of math later, I had the board nicely centered on the mount.

The final boards will be black. This green board is just the POC board I had on hand at the moment. Didn't want to wait for the other boards I'm building in order to test the case.

Starting to finish some of the reproduction CMD HD board builds. Thought I'd share some photos of the assembled and tested PCBs. This I am considering a finished production board. All boards will be fully socketed.

PCBs were manufactured by PCBWay, super quality as always.
