Monkey Island 2 is another solid gold pirate adventure by Ron Gilbert at Lucasfilm Games. The game was released in late 1991, and earlier in the year a re-org of Lucas companies brought about a name and logo change to the games division - LucasArts.
Monkey Island 2 is simply gorgeous, and to fully appreciate it one should try to view it with a CRT. Note the screenshots below captured off a Commodore 1086S monitor - emulation simply can't compare or give this kind of artistry its due credit. The music, sound effects and graphics are all hands-down brilliant.
As with many graphic adventures, some of the puzzles can be a bit mind boggling at times. But this is a title worth sticking it out, as screen to screen the atmosphere is completely immersive and addicting. The art is so magnificent, it's as if you're walking from one beautiful painting to another.
Note about the screenshots: It's not always apparent as the shots were taken by a camera in a dark room, but this game almost never has black bars (title boxing) except for when the menu area - the lower 1/4 of the screen - is missing. The black bars, including left/right, are often parts of the monitor which can't be seen due to the lighting.
