It may be time to find a broken A1000…..

Just for information: GBA 1000 will only work in a PAL system, no NTSC.

I came across an old posting of yours on Amibay regarding this matter. A quick test with an NTSC Agnus (390544-02) is indeed causing the startup animation to lock up, but I have good hopes that the anim can be bypassed. The 28.6363 MHz oscillator is only useful for genlocking and since the GBA's RGB port is missing some essential genlock signals (particularly /XCLK and /XCLKEN), this is not much of an issue anyway. I cannot confirm your IDE performance drop.

The GBA1000 from my initial posting has recently found herself a new owner in my friend Jiri from the Czech Republic, who has promised me to take good care of her.
Jiri sent me another nice photo of his GBA, with the Picasso II and the 68060 turbo card removed for the occasion.

Here is another unusual contraption that I was curious about. A gutted A590 with SCSI2SD and a humble extra amount of 2MB onboard fastmem, connected backwards to the GBA1000.

Let me know what you think of the idea of a transparent top cover. Courtesy of fellow GBA1000 owner Jiri, who was kind enough to show off his photoshop skills with the mock up below!

Since I put my monitor on the top of the A1K's case, this kind of concept wouldn't make a lot of sense for me. (I'd be afraid of it's structural integrity, too.) However, if you go this route it seems some LED lighting might be a good next step. :check:

If the idea is to do this so you can take the computer to events to show and discuss, it would be a pretty cool looking way to do it.

I'm well aware of the mechanical issues, as I would also like the top cover to be strong enough to support a CRT. I was thinking of an acrylic window with substantial thickness and a machined "lip" around the edge for glueing. I'd also be replacing the removed standoffs with transparent ones. No monitor support would make things a lot easier. A single sheet of 3mm perspex would suffice.

I'm not a big fan of led lighting. I would rather leave that to today's casemodding scene.
